Water borehole project

In general, there are various rural areas in Zambia as well as in Zimbabwe where there is far too little or only contaminated drinking water. With SwiZimAid, we have visited such places on our various trips and have been able to finance 15 water wells to date (in cooperation with the Salvation Army in Bern).

In 2009 we started with such projects and made a short film about it: SwiZimAidWater2009

In Chikankata (Zambia) there is water - but this water is polluted. Since there is no other water, people in the whole area have to drink this water - also in the hospital. On behalf of SwiZimAid, in July 2017, a geologist analyzed the area and proposed 3 locations for drilling. On our trip in July 2017 we witnessed how a 80m deep hole was drilled. 3 months later, water checks showed that this water is clean. Since this borehole is 2km away from the hospital, pipes must be laid through which the water can be pumped into large water tanks. Then at least the hospital will have access to clean water. On our trip to Chikankata in 2019 we were allowed to visit the completed project.

Another water project was realized in Ndola, in the north of Zambia. Further details can be found here: NdolaWater
